On this Veterans Day, as we commemorate the service of all men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, it is fitting to recognize the individuals who continue to dedicate their lives to preventing active shooter incidents and safeguarding our communities. These extraordinary individuals have brought their expertise, experience, and unwavering commitment to the Active Shooter Prevention Project, making significant contributions to ensure the safety and security of our nation. Today, we pay tribute to their invaluable efforts.

ASPP Community of Experts

Chris Grollnek, a former United States Marine – Staff Non-Commissioned Officer, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and resilience throughout his career. His military background and extensive knowledge in the field have been instrumental in shaping effective strategies to prevent active shooter incidents.

Greg Shaffer, with 20 years of experience in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), 6 years on the elite Hostage Rescue Team (HRT), and 8 years as a Coast Guard Officer and Boat Captain has brought his tactical expertise and global operational experience to the Active Shooter Prevention Project. His insights and dedication have contributed to enhancing our understanding of the complexities surrounding active shooter incidents.

Chuck Savickis, a retired FBI Special Agent – Hostage Rescue Team and former US Navy SEAL, has exemplified courage and dedication in his pursuit of ensuring public safety. His expertise in organized crime, narcotics, undercover operations, and SWAT has provided invaluable insights into the prevention of active shooter incidents.

Glenn Norling, a retired FBI Special Agent and former U.S. Air Force Officer, has brought his extensive experience in law enforcement and military operations to the Active Shooter Prevention Project. His insights into threat assessment and response strategies have been crucial in developing comprehensive approaches to mitigate risks.

Mike Messenger, a retired FBI Agent and former Acting Head of the FBI Newark Division, has played a pivotal role in the Active Shooter Prevention Project. His extensive experience in the FBI and collaboration with the US Secret Service Fraud and Cyber Task Force and the White House Office of the Program Manager Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative have been instrumental in developing effective prevention strategies.

Michael Rush, a retired Senior Federal Law Enforcement Officer and retired DEA Supervisory Special Agent, has brought his expertise in law enforcement and combatting organized crime to the Active Shooter Prevention Project. His insights into intelligence gathering and analysis have contributed to the development of comprehensive threat assessment and response protocols.

Daryl Parker, a retired Marine Chief Warrant Officer 3, Police Lieutenant in Criminal Investigations in Texas and a firearms expert, has played a crucial role in enhancing our understanding of active shooter incidents from a law enforcement perspective. His expertise in criminal investigations and tactical response has helped shape effective strategies for preventing and responding to such incidents.

Tod Langley, a retired Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Army with extensive military and sensitive operations experience, has provided invaluable leadership and advisory roles within the Active Shooter Prevention Project. His expertise in commanding combat soldiers and Special Operations Forces has been vital in developing comprehensive prevention and response strategies.

Scott Hyderkhan, a highly experienced and accomplished professional with 20 years of experience as a US Army Ranger Master Sergeant and 19 years as a Patrol Officer, has brought a wealth of knowledge to the Active Shooter Prevention Project. His expertise in tactical response, active shooter instruction, and risk assessment has contributed to the development of effective training programs and response plans.

Aaron Witt, with over 19 years of experience as a federal Law Enforcement Officer and a third-level manager, has played a significant role in the Active Shooter Prevention Project. Ty Hewer, with over 5 years of experience in the Canadian Armed Forces, has been a respected thought leader in the field of active shooter and hostile event response.
