Media Inquiries

Email info@aspppro.com and put “Media Inquiry Urgent” in the subject line. We answer media requests in roughly two hours. If Chris is traveling or teaching, that window can stretch. Requests are answered in the order they arrive.

About Chris Grollnek

Chris Grollnek is a Former U.S. Marine and retired police detective corporal, and the creator of the P.R.O. Model™ (Prevention. Response. Options.), an “A” national standard for active shooter prevention selected twice by the U.S. Department of Justice and in use at some installations and commands across the Department of Defense.

He has given more than 1,200 television interviews across two decades, and he has been on scene at an active shooter incident. He holds a Master of Science in Administration of Justice and Security, with a capstone on the active shooter phenomenon.

What the U.S. Army published

On October 8, 2024, the United States Army published an article on army.mil covering the Blue Grass Army Depot AI intruder detection demonstration. Reporting on who attended, the Army wrote:

“Also in attendance was Chris Grollnek, one of the country’s foremost authorities on active shooters, and representatives from the Madison County and Berea Independent school districts.”

Greg Kocher, Blue Grass Army Depot — A new tool for intruder detection: BGAD tests AI for enhanced security, U.S. Army, October 8, 2024

The Army placed him in that room alongside Drew Walter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters, and representatives for U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul. The same event was covered by DVIDS, DoD News, Stars and Stripes, WKYT and WEKU.

The Department of Justice engagement, on the public record

The Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys commissioned an active shooter prevention training program delivered through the Department of Justice learning portal. The description published on the program video reads:

“Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys of the U.S. Department of Justice Contracts Chris Grollnek and Chuck Savickis”

Published March 2023

Chuck Savickis, named alongside Chris Grollnek, is a retired FBI Hostage Rescue Team agent and a member of the ASPP™ Community of Experts. The program was produced at the Justice Television Network studio and reaches the FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, ATF and every U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Topics we speak to on the record

  • Active shooter prevention, and why prevention is not the same as response
  • What is known, and what is not yet known, in the first hours of a developing incident
  • Law enforcement response times and what they mean for people inside a building
  • Workplace violence and pre-incident indicators
  • School and campus safety
  • Domestic terrorism and explosive device recognition

How we work with reporters

If the facts do not support a conclusion yet, we will say so on the record rather than speculate. Reporters have relied on that for twenty years, and it is the reason the phone rings.

We do not comment on the identity or motive of an attacker before it is established. We do not speculate about victims. We will talk about what the evidence supports, what the research shows, and what organizations can do differently.

What we will not do

We will not name a suspect, a motive, or a cause before investigators establish it. We will not speculate about victims or their families. We will not use a developing incident to sell training.

If a story requires a source willing to say something definitive within the first hour, we are the wrong call, and we will tell you that quickly so you can find someone else before your deadline.
