Veterans Helping Veterans: CoolVu, FutureVu Brands, and ASPP™ Share a Mission Bigger Than Business
At the Active Shooter Prevention Project™ (ASPP™), we have always believed that prevention starts long before a crisis ever occurs. It starts with people, communities, and environments intentionally designed to protect and support others, a mission bigger than business.
That is why stories like this matter.
Recently, CoolVu Glass & Surface Solutions completed its first official partnership project with Homes For Our Troops, supporting retired injured veteran Brian Pearce at his newly built adaptive home in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
The installation was completed by Joshua Maldonado, owner of CoolVu of Northern Virginia and a retired U.S. military veteran himself. What began as a service project quickly became something far more personal when Joshua and Brian discovered they had both served during deployment in Iraq with the legendary “Arctic Wolves,” the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team (172nd SBCT).
Although the two veterans did not know each other during deployment, the connection created an immediate bond rooted in shared sacrifice, service, and brotherhood.
“Finding out we served in the same brigade during the same deployment made this project incredibly personal,” said Maldonado. “There’s a bond veterans share that’s hard to explain. Being able to give back to another veteran through this program means a lot to me.”

CoolVu supporting veterans and stronger communities through service-driven partnerships and adaptive housing initiatives.
CoolVu provided specialized window film and surface solutions designed to improve comfort, privacy, energy efficiency, and overall livability within the adaptive home. But beyond the products themselves, this project represented something much deeper.
Service continuing beyond the uniform.
CoolVu is part of FutureVu Brands (FVB), a growing national platform focused on glass, surface, architectural, and security solutions across residential, commercial, and institutional environments. Through its partnership with ASPP™, FVB continues to support initiatives focused on violence prevention, safer buildings, community resilience, and practical security solutions that help protect people and property.
This is where the missions of CoolVu, FutureVu Brands, and ASPP™ strongly align.
At ASPP™, we believe safety is not simply about reacting to violence after it happens. True prevention means creating environments that reduce vulnerabilities before tragedy ever occurs. Whether through violence prevention education, school safety awareness, hardened glazing systems, protective infrastructure, or community partnerships, the goal remains the same: to protect lives.
Projects like this demonstrate how the private sector can meaningfully contribute to that mission while supporting veterans and strengthening communities.
Veterans and community partners united through service, leadership, and a shared mission to support stronger and safer communities.
CoolVu also continues to create opportunities for military veterans beyond charitable initiatives alone. As part of its national franchise expansion strategy, the company actively offers discounted franchise opportunities for qualified veterans transitioning into private-sector business ownership.
The program helps veterans apply the leadership, discipline, and mission-focused mindset developed during military service toward building businesses that serve their local communities.
Through the CoolVu franchise platform, veteran owners help improve building safety, increase privacy, reduce solar heat and glare, lower energy consumption, and strengthen both residential and commercial environments.
For many veterans, it represents far more than entrepreneurship.
It is another opportunity to serve.
That focus on purpose-driven leadership is another reason the missions of CoolVu, FutureVu Brands, and ASPP™ remain closely connected, empowering local leaders while helping create safer, smarter, and more resilient communities nationwide.
According to company leadership, the Virginia project is only the beginning. CoolVu expects to participate in an estimated 20 to 25 additional Homes For Our Troops projects across the United States throughout 2026.
“This first project represents exactly what our brand stands for; service, community, and making a meaningful impact,” said Mike Herrera, President of CoolVu Glass & Surface Solutions. “Having one veteran franchise owner complete the installation for another veteran made this project unforgettable.”
For ASPP™, stories like this serve as an important reminder.
Prevention and protection are never just about technology, policies, or products; they are about people.
Veterans helping veterans, communities supporting communities, and a service that never truly ends.
