Prevention Works: The Journey to Destination #NEVERHERE

Journey to Destination NEVERHERE: We are reminded, all too often, of how close we stand to tragedy. In Pierce County, Washington, a 13-year-old boy was arrested after authorities uncovered more than twenty firearms, tactical gear, and chilling writings that glorified mass shootings. It is unsettling not because the worst happened, but because it nearly did. In this narrow space between “almost” and “too late,” prevention shows its true strength.

Prevention is not a theory; it is a proven practice. At the Active Shooter Prevention Project®, we call it the P.R.O. Model™: (Prevention. Response. Options.). Developed and trademarked by Chris Grollnek, the nation’s leading Active Shooter Expert, the model is both copyrighted and field-tested. It does not wait for gunfire to dictate our actions. It equips schools, workplaces, and communities to stop violence before it starts, while also preparing them with response and options should the unthinkable occur.

The results are real. Over the years, the Active Shooter Prevention Project® has documented three registered “saves” of lives protected through early identification, timely intervention, and structured prevention measures. These are not abstractions; they are children who walked safely out of classrooms, employees who returned home to their families, and communities that were spared grief. Each “save” is living proof that the P.R.O. Model™ works.

Yet prevention is not easy. It requires vigilance, courage, and a commitment to uncomfortable conversations. It demands that we see warning signs for what they are, rather than dismissing them as harmless curiosities. And it requires collaboration among parents, teachers, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and policymakers working as one. This is not the effort of a moment but the dedication of a movement.
That is why we speak often of the Journey to Destination #NEVERHERE. It is not a slogan but a truth: the journey takes everything we have. It takes time, training, and trust. It takes the humility to accept that prevention is hard work, and the resolve to keep pressing forward even when the results are invisible because the results of prevention are measured not in headlines, but in lives uninterrupted.

The time has come for national adoption. The P.R.O. Model™ has been tested, trademarked, copyrighted, and proven. The Active Shooter Prevention Project® has shown, with registered saves and countless interventions, that proactive prevention is not just possible; it is the only way forward. To continue relying solely on response is to admit defeat before the first call to 911. To embrace prevention is to believe that our children, our colleagues, and our communities deserve better.

Prevention works. It always has, and it always will. But only if we commit to it fully. And as long as we remain committed, we will keep moving toward the only destination worthy of our efforts: #NEVERHERE.
