The genesis of SafeWood Designs can be traced back to a series of tragic incidents where glass storefront systems failed to shield occupants during critical moments. In response, their visionary founder set out to create a storefront system that marries custom millwork with bullet resistance, ensuring a welcoming ambiance without sacrificing safety.

By January 2018, this innovative wood storefront was awarded a patent covering 13 different conditions, a testament to its groundbreaking design. Then, on February 14, 2018, tragedy struck at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. This heartbreaking event galvanized a community and amplified the call for inviting yet secure environments. In response, Safe Schools Safe Kids was born, dedicated to meeting the demands for warm, non-threatening security enhancements in schools.

Fast forward to May 2018, and Safe Schools Safe Kids joined forces with the Minnesota State Legislature, championing a bipartisan initiative to bolster safety in educational institutions. Though the funding was limited, the endeavor marked a significant stride forward.

As interest swelled beyond educational spaces, it became evident that the name ‘Safe Schools Safe Kids’ was confining the company’s capacity to expand safety and security across diverse sectors. And so, Safe Schools Safe Kids was reborn as SafeWood Designs, Inc., embracing a broader mission to fortify the safety of every space where we live, learn, work, worship, and play.
