How many of these different and unsettling graphics have we all seen today?

The effort to protect a President and build models such as prevention response and options has always been based on the United States Secret Service. Their protection bubble is one of the best in the world and should continue to be emulated. That said, with everything that’s transpired and everything that happened yesterday with the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump and the tragic loss of life of one of his supporters, we already know there’s no place in this country for that type of discourse. This is less a political or national message but a common sense plea to the public that we can do better.

It’s time we use the resources and technology available to us. The following lays out the foundation and framework for the necessity. We would be personally and professionally remiss if we didn’t tell you that our hearts and souls have gone into this for years – trying to stop one tragedy that hasn’t happened yet, based on the lessons of many who have experienced tragedy. The Secret Service does this work continually, yet we see failures because of human shortcomings. We can absolutely leverage technology to help.

Open-air environments, such as the political rally in Butler, PA, have a lot of space to cover. The human can only see so much. We can be outraged that many missed a person with a firearm in an open-air space, even with a limited amount of known threat areas (elevated firing positions). Still, had there been a weapons detection system such as SCYLLA along with an energy detection system for gunshots such as EAGL, there’s no way five shots could have been fired before the counter sniper team detected where a firearm was located.

There’s no hyperbole here. The tests are done, the accuracy is immense, and in these types of environments, we demand change as a public. We come to you as citizens who happen to know this field, not as experts selling a “ware.”

Please help us and the rest of the Active Shooter Prevention Project community of experts continue to create change and promote life-saving measures so we don’t have to repeat this.
