It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of two lives and pray for the swift recovery of the three individuals injured in the senseless shooting that took place on Saturday, June 17, at the Beyond Wonderland dance music festival. This devastating incident, which occurred at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, has left us all grappling with grief and searching for answers.

The motive behind this act of violence remains unclear, leaving us to wonder about the intentions and mindset of the shooter. The public information officer with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Kyle Foreman, expressed our collective confusion, stating, “We don’t know what the motives were or what the intentions were of the shooter, and we’ll have to wait and see if we can find that information out later on.”

In response to this tragedy, the second day of the festival, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, had to be canceled. The organizers of Beyond Wonderland, Insomniac Events, released a statement expressing their gratitude to the local authorities and staff for their swift response in managing the situation. They extended their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic event.

Beyond Wonderland has long been a flagship festival brand for Insomniac Events, captivating electronic music enthusiasts from all over. This annual event, hosted at The Gorge and other locations, brings together artists, fans, and the community to celebrate music and unity. The lineup for Sunday was meant to feature renowned artists such as Marshmello, Afrojack, and Subtronics, who were prepared to deliver memorable performances for their devoted fans.

According to authorities from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. local time in the camping area of the festival. The gunman unleashed random gunfire into the crowd, tragically claiming the lives of two innocent individuals and injuring three others before being apprehended by law enforcement. At this time, the identities of the gunman and the victims have not been disclosed.

Chris Grollnek shares his thoughts on the profound impact these events have on everyone involved.

“It is not enough to merely have a security plan in place; we need comprehensive emergency action plans that incorporate training, technology, and a deep understanding of the situation. We cannot let fear consume us; instead, we must respond with preparedness and a determination to prevent such incidents from occurring.

It is time for us to go beyond reactive measures and embrace a proactive approach to safety. The active shooter industry, born out of pure evil, generates billions of dollars each year. We must redirect our focus from purchasing reactive tools to implementing a holistic solution that prevents active shooters and evildoers from carrying out their heinous acts.

Today, I urge you to share this message and be part of the change. Together, we can establish a national standard for the public, providing guidance on what to do and how to do it in times of crisis. We need to transform our spaces to be as resistant to active shooters as they are to fire, and this transformation can only be achieved through collective effort. #NEVERHERE is not just a dream; it is an attainable reality.

Let us remember the victims of this tragic incident, their families, and friends in our thoughts and prayers. May their memories be a guiding light as we work tirelessly to create a world where such senseless violence becomes a thing of the past.”
